Roy Jones Jr. returned a bit of luster to his suddenly tarnished Hall-of-Fame career with a lopsided unanimous decision victory over Prince Badi Ajamu to capture the NABO Light Heavyweight title at Qwest Arena.

Jones came out on top on all three cards by a score of 119-106.

The former pound-for-pound king built up an early lead on the cards with a steady body attack, discouraging the champion early on and throwing him off his game.

The Camden, NJ native tried to crowd Jones, in an attempt to blunt the blinding hand speed of the former four-time champion, but his strategy proved to be hopeless.

The 37-year-old Jones saw his confidence grow as the fight wore on, putting together four and five punch combinations in the middle rounds. Ajamu became increasingly frustrated and lost two points in the seventh round and another in the eighth for repeated low blows.

Jones opened a cut over the right eye of Ajamu in the ninth round with a series of solid left hooks, and cruised to victory from there, snapping a six- fight win streak for Ajamu.

The win, however, will most likely not impress many critics, as Jones is viewed as a shot fighter trying to hang on too long. The Pensicola, FL native had lost his last three fights, including two devastating knockouts, and this win over a fringe contender is hardly a statement that Jones is once again a force in the light heavyweight division.
