Jermain Taylor retained his undisputed middleweight title, but only after fighting Ronald "Winky" Wright to a draw Saturday night at the FedExForum.

Taylor's left eye was swelled to the point of closure by the time the bout ended. Wright, seemingly upset at the scores, left the ring after the decision was announced.

Chuck Giampa scored the 12 rounds, 115-113, in Taylor's favor, while Ray Hawkins had it, 115-113, for Wright. Melvina Lathan scored it 114-114.

Taylor (25-0-1), who was coming off of consecutive decisions against former champion Bernard Hopkins, announced after the fight that he would fight Wright (50-3-1) again if possible. Wright disputed the scores, thinking he won the bout, but said he didn't want to box Taylor again.

Wright entered the bout with 11 straight wins, with three of his last four victories coming against Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad. However, neither fighter could gain a decided advantage Saturday.

Wright used his right jab to his advantage to injure Taylor's left eye, but the champion, defending his title for the second time, had other intentions.

In the 10th round, Taylor landed solid right hands in the final minute, pounding away at the deteriorating face of Wright. Earlier in the round, Taylor was warned for the second time for pushing on Wright's head to drive him toward the canvas.

Taylor moved well throughout the fight, but most of his power punches didn't get through the expert glove-work of Wright. The challenger backed Taylor into the corner in the 11th, but the champ busted out to create another tight round.

Neither fighter was especially busy in the final round, although Taylor did have a flurry of punches in the center of the ring with a minute left. Taylor was left with blood dripping from his nose at the end of the bout and with a huge welt over his left eye, but still held the WBC, WBO and WBA middleweight belts.
