Former WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown will make his return to the cage Jan. 10 at the WEC 46 card at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.

He’ll face WEC newcomer Anthony Morrison on an undercard that already features another featherweight contender, Urijah Faber.

Brown (22-5) lost his featherweight belt to 23-year-old phenom Jose Aldo in their Nov. 18 fight in Las Vegas. Aldo dominated that fight from the start, out-striking Brown in the first round before finishing him by TKO in the second.

With that loss still fresh in his mind, Brown will look to take his first step back toward the 145-pound title with a win over Morrison (14-6).

“Mike Brown is hungry to prove that he is still the best featherweight in the world,” said WEC General Manager Reed Harris in a statement. “He asked for us to put him in a fight as soon as possible against a world-class opponent.

“Morrison is a dangerous fighter and certainly someone that poses major problems for Brown. This is an incredible matchup.”

The addition of Brown makes for a pretty stacked card to start off the year for the WEC. A lightweight championship fight between Jamie Varner and Ben Henderson is scheduled to headline.
