Jimmy The Moose
Both teams have played the over in 2 of their 3 games thus far thanks to their poor defensive play. The Avalanche have allowed 4.5 goals/game in their 3 games so far this season. On the other side the Flyers have allowed 4 goals/game in that same span. The over is a profitable 7-1-1 in Colorado's last 9 home games. Both team's have some decent goal scoreres and they both will capitalize tonight. Look for plenty of goals tonight. Play the Over.

BEN BURNS THURSDAY GAME OF MONTH
I'm taking the points with TCU. As you're probably aware, this is a huge game for both teams. BYU comes in with an undefeated record and the Cougars know that if they can win this game that they'll likely have relatively smooth sailing until they travel to Utah in their season finale. As for TCU, the Horned Frogs are still perfect (3-0) in Conference play and are 6-1 overall, with the lone loss coming at #1 Oklahoma, a venue where almost any team would lose. Note that a closer look at the stats from that game shows that TCU actually had an edge in time of possession and only one fewer first down than the Sooners. A victory here really strengthens the Horned Frogs' case for a bigger bowl game and gives them a legit chance of winning the conference - although it should be noted that they also play at Utah. It's true that BYU has been blowing out most opponents when facing them at Provo. However, the Cougars are 0-2 ATS in their two road games. They won easily but didn't cover vs. a weak Utah State team. They also won by only a single point vs. a mediocre Washington team. Neither of those venues is as tough as what BYU will be dealing with here in Fort Worth. Looking back to last season and we find that the Cougars are 3-5 ATS their last eight road games, including outright losses at UCLA and Toledo. Additionally, the Cougars failed to cover vs. New Mexico last week, winning 21-3, while converting just four of 12 third down conversions. In fact, BYU coach Mendenhall described the game as saying: "It was the most physical and hard-fought game that we have played this season..." Interestingly, New Mexico is the only common opponent which BYU and TCU have faced so far this season. The Horned Frogs played at New Mexico, yet dominated. They won 26-3 and had a 20-9 edge in first downs. On the other hand, despite playing at home, the Cougars actually had fewer first downs than did the Lobos. That was BYU's toughest home game since last season when it was tested by both Utah and TCU. That game vs. TCU finished with a score of 27-22. BYU won but TCU covered. The previous meeting, here in 2006, saw BYU snap TCU's winning streak, which was the longest winning streak in the nation at the time. This year, it's BYU which comes in with the longest winning streak in the nation and it's safe to say that the Horned Frogs are itching to return the favor. Note that BYU returned 12 starters from last year's team, while TCU brought back 15, which was the most in the Mountain West. The Cougars' offense didn't look particularly sharp last week and now they'll face a much tougher defense, while dealing with a hostile crowd. This year's TCU team comes in allowing a mere 11.4 points per game, which ranks in the top 10 in the country. The Horned Frogs also rank #1 in the entire country in terms of total yards per game, first downs allowed AND time of possession. Looking back several seasons and we find TCU at an excellent 6-1 SU/ATS the last seven times it was listed as a home underdog of three points or less. During the same stretch, BYU was just 1-4 SU/ATS as a road favorite of three points or less. Look for TCU to get some payback from the two losses the last two years and spoil BYU's dreams of an undefeated season. *Thursday Night Game of the Month

BEN BURNS ESPN TOTAL OF THE WEEK
I'm playing on Florida State and NC State to finish UNDER the total. The Wolfpack have played the Seminoles tough in recent seasons, which has been largely due to the fact that they've played solid defense. Looking at the last four series meetings and we find that they produced combined scores of 37, 44, 35 and 27 points. The last three meetings here in Raleigh have been particularly low-scoring, averaging a mere 31.67 points per game. I'm expecting another relatively low-scoring contest this evening. It's true that the Wolfpack defense hasn't been particularly strong this season and that they have given up a lot of points their last two games. However, they are coming off a bye and that time off allowed several key defensive players time to recover from nagging injuries. You may recall what happened after last year's bye, which also came after NC State had played six games. The Wolfpack entered last year's bye week having lost three straight games, while allowing an average of 33 points per game in the losses. After the bye, the Wolfpack faced an East Carolina squad which had gone 3-0 its previous three games, while scoring 52, 37 and 45 points. Most expected the Pirates to put up big numbers once again. However, the Wolfpack D delivered one of its best games of the season and allowed just 20 points. Including that result, the Wolfpack have seen the UNDER go 7-1 the last eight times they were coming off back to back SU losses and 14-4 their last 18 games (with a total) in that situation. It's also worth noting that the Wolfpack were shutout (at South Carolina) in their only previous Thursday game this season and that they e This year's bye came has allowed the Wolfpack enough time that they should get defensive stars Michael Cash and linebacker Nate Irving back in the lineup. Cash, who coach Tom O'Brien said was the team's best defensive lineman before having knee surgery, is reportedly back at full strength after missing three games. Irving, currently listed as probable, made 34 tackles in three and a half games and remains the Wolfpack's leader with six tackles for loss and three interceptions. The Seminoles, who are also coming off a bye, also allowed a lot of points (39) in their last game. However, a closer look at that game shows that Florida State had only allowed three points in the first half and that the defense wasn't fully responsible for many of the points allowed in the second half. That's because two botched snaps on Florida State punts led to Miami points while the Hurricanes also ran back an interception for a touchdown. Prior to that game, the Seminoles had been allowing a mere 10 points per game. Note that the Noles have seen the UNDER go 9-2 their last 11 games (with a total) in which they were favored in the 10.5 to 14 point range. Florida State is still only allowing a mere 230 total yards per game, which ranks second (behind TCU) in the entire country. Look for both defenses to rise to the occasion as these teams play yet another relatively low-scoring game against each other. *ESPN TOW

5 units-Nc State (+11) over Florida State 7:30 PM -- Carter-Finley Stadium
N.C. State (2-4) is getting healthy again and gets back three defensive players, including two starters for this game. This is not to suggest the Wolf Pack can beat Florida State (4-1) but a healthy defense figures to slowdown the one thing FSU does well, and that is to run the football. It is obvious the Seminoles have shown a preference for running the football and that is what I believe they will do here and that alone is going to slowdown the scoring. N.C. State comes into this off a bye and appears ready to fire its best shot. Considering all the circumstances, the number is simply too high.

Johnny Guild BYU at TCU
Tonight's Mountain West battle between BYU Cougars and TCU Horned Frogs should be a great fight that could easily go either way. TCU's potent defense will put pressure on BYU's high-power offense and quarterback Max Hall, but keep in mind the unbeaten Cougars' defense is solid, ninth in the nation in tackles. Expect a close contest. The Cougars are allowing 10.2 points per game, while the Frogs 11.4 points a game.

PICKEN'S PICK NCAA Mountain West Game of the Year (5-0 this week, tonight we make it 8-0)
Folks, it's just another win last night putting us at 5-0 so far this week. That's right 5-0 and no one matches Picken's. We nailed the Browns +9 (and I told you lay 15% of the ATS bet on the moneyline and we nailed that also) along with the "Over" in the MNF game, we nailed the "Over" on Tuesday night in the Boston game, and last night we made it 4 straight with the Phillies advancing to the World Series. Congrats to all those who took home the easy money.
NCAA Mountain West Game of the Year!
At 8:00pm BYU will travel to TCU to face the #1 defense in all of college football. There are other handicappers out there that love to point to last weeks games, or try to compare what these teams have done against common opponents. That's all fine and dandy folks, but these 2 teams both had trap games last week. The fact that BYU stumbled against New Mexico and the fact that TCU nailed them in the first game of the year is like comparing apples and oranges. Last I checked TCU struggled with a trash Colorado State team last week also. So forget about last week, both these schools knew who was up on the schedule next.
Folks simply put, TCU has a great running defense, but in a big game of this magnitude it is your quarterback who is the most important player on the field. TCU may have the best defense in the nation, but in all honesty who cares when you Stephen F. Austin and Southern Methodist on your schedule. TCU did do a helluva job against the run vs. Oklahoma, but they also got tocrched for over 400+ in the air...and let me tell you folks Sam Bradford is no Max Hall. Expect the same tonight. Max Hall is a legit stud, and in the national spotlight against the so called "best defense in the NCAA" Mr. Hall will show off his arm. BYU will struggle to move the football on the ground against TCU, but they will throw the ball all over this team and light them up like the Whitehouse Christmas Tree. TCU will be bested by a bedtime story. As always good luck. Make sure you grab the NCAA Total of the Month and our ALCS pick and you'll be 8-0 this week.
Play on BYU +1

Bob Balfe College Football NC State +11 over Florida State Florida State has finally found some offense, but I do not think they are as good as their point per game total would indicate. NC State has been beat up this year, but they proved they could win the big game when they beat then ranked ECU a few weeks back. FSU might have given their rivals Miami all they had last week and this will be more of a letdown game. Bottom line FSU should not be favored by double digits yet. Take NCState
BYU +1.5 over TCU This is a very interesting game. I will say more people are betting on BYU, but it seems like the big money is heavy on TCU. TCU has a great defense, but lets not forget about BYU's Defense which is pretty good. TCU Is great at stopping the run, but BYU passes the ball and their offense is as good as any in the nation. BYU has the longest winning streak in the nation and when you don't get that feeling of being a loser you don't find ways to lose. This will be a great game. Take BYU.

3Daily Winners BYU vs. TCU (NCAAF) Play: Point Spread: -2/-105 TCU
The action has hit heavy on TCU, taking them from a 2.5-point underdog to 1.5 to 2-point favorite. Despite the action being so one-sided, here is why it correct. Quarterback Max Hall is running the number eight passing attack in the country, averaging better 321 yards per game. As good as the Cougars offense is they average only 30 more yards than what the teams they have played have allowed (452 vs 422), suggesting it might be slightly overarated. The Horned Frogs defensive front is one of the best in the country, leading the nation in rushing yards, allowing a ludicrous 20.7 yards per game and really targets the opposing quarterback in passing situations. When TCU holds opponent to under 100 yards rushing, they are 50-6. Overall, TCU leads the nation in total defense giving up 207.4 yards per game. The total is positioned where TCU thrives, being 16-4 ATS at home when the total is between 42.5 and 49. Finally, the favorite is 4-0 ATS in this short series and the home team is 3-1 ATS. TCU is 5-0 ATS the last decade when Top 25 teams visit Fort Worth.

Gregg Price "The Living Legend" Tampa Bay Rays vs. Boston Red Sox (MLB) - Oct 16, 2008 8:05 PM EDT Play: Money Line: 141 Tampa Bay Rays Play Title: It's over TB - This team is hungry. This team has pitching and speed. They remind of the marlins a few years back. Kazmir won't get lit up again. Also I look for the TB batters to be more patient this time around with Dice K. He only averages 5 2/3 per start. The pullpen hasn't been good. No one thinks Boston will get swept at home. I do.

WUNDERDOG SPORTS NHL Game: New Jersey at Atlanta (7:05 PM Eastern) Pick: Game Total OVER 5 -130
The New Jersey Devils will bring their 2-1 record to Atlanta tonight to face the 1-1-1 Thrashers. The Thrashers were impressive in their opener winning 7-4, but they have struggled since. They are allowing 3.67 goals a game and that has been their problem. New Jersey had been solid behind Martin Broduer, but the net was leaky in his last outing allowing four goals. These teams have a history of lighting up the nets when they play in Atlanta. Over the last three years, which includes the last six times these teams have met, this matchup has produced 48 goals, or an average eight per contest! This one looks like another one ready to produce some scoring, so I'll back the OVER here.

CFB:
Thursday, October 16, 2008 7:30 p.m. est. Florida State at NC State Florida State Seminoles -11
NC State Wolfpack feeble defense will have major problems against Florida State Seminoles balance offense. Look for running back Antone Smith to tear them apart.
Thursday, October 16, 2008 8:00 p.m. est. (9) B-Y-U at T-C-U Brigham Young Cougars -1
TCU's potent defense ranked No. 1 in the nation in total defense will be a big challenge for the Cougars high-octane offense led by quarterback Max Hall. BYU has won three of the four meetings versus TCU at Fort Worth.

Allen Eastman Take #304 TCU (+1) over BYU (8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16)
We’re playing the correct end of a reverse line movement in this game. Over 80 percent of the action in this game has gone on the Cougars, yet the line is trending toward the home dogs with TCU. Thursday night games this year have given us a slew of upsets and home teams have still won at over a 60-percent rate this fall in these primetime college matchups. The TCU defense is the real deal. They held their last opponent to -49 RUSHING YARDS IN THE SECOND HALF! That type of power up front should be able to slow down Max Hall and Co. TCU is 8-3 ATS in its last 11 games overall and 38-16 ATS in their last 54 home games.

WinningPoints *CLOSE CALLS
Florida State over N. C. State* by 12 (Thursday) The last time we saw the Seminoles on the field, they were showing a developing ground game via the running ability of QB Christian Ponder. The Wolfpack have allowed four straight opponents to reach 5.0 per rush. FLORIDA STATE 26-14.
T.C.U.* over Brigham Young by 2 (Thursday) This call gets bigger if Andy Dalton is able to run the show at QB for the Horned Frogs, but we believe the speed of their defense can cause some real problems for Max Hall. T.C.U. 24-22.

STAT FOX / PLATINUM SHEET - NCAA 10/16/2008 (303) BYU at (304) TCU Of the elite threesome in the Mountain West (BYU, TCU, Utah), one has received the majority of the accolades this season, BYU. Now, I’m not saying that the Cougars aren’t worthy of the praise, as they’ve enjoyed a nice 3-year run of success under Bronco Mendenhall, but my question is…are they really that much better than the other two teams? No is the answer, and the Outplay Factor numbers show it: BYU +10.1, TCU +11.3 against a slightly tougher schedule. TCU’s defense is as good as ever in 2008, and with the home field advantage the Horned Frogs typically enjoy, this figures to be BYU’s toughest game on the schedule. TCU’s run defense has been nothing short of incredible (21 RYPG, 0.9 YPR). Of course, they are only allowing 48% completion percentage to opponents as well. Carter Stadium has also been a house of horrors for MWC opponents usually: Patterson is 19-9 ATS (+9.1 Units) in home games against conference opponents as the coach of TCU. Thursday home underdogs are tough historically, especially those as good as TCU. Play: TCU +2

Dave Cokin (303) BYU (304) TCU Take "Under" Tonight's MWC clash between BYU and TCU is a big one. The Cougars are looking to crash the BCS party, and need to keep winning to get their shot. While they're a program renowned for offense, it's actually the BYU defense that has been the more consistent unit this season. Over their last four games, BYU has two shutouts, led 34-0 vs. Utah State before giving up a couple of meaningless scores and held New Mexico to one field goal. TCU gave up a bunch on the road to Oklahoma. But in their other six games, the Horned Frogs have surrendered a grand total of 45 points. I expect the two stop units to be at their respective best in this important game, and I look for the Under to come home a winner.

Jim Feist (55) WAS Capitals (56) PIT Penguins Take "Over" A couple of strong offensive teams here. The Pittsburgh Penguins don't expect to go much longer with minimal output from stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. For now, they're getting by with goals from players whose scoring for a season sometimes doesn't match a week of Crosby's. Pascal Dupuis scored on a slap shot from along the edge of the left circle with 10.8 seconds left in overtime and the Penguins in a 3-2 win over the Flyers. Washington is averaging almost 5 goals per game and is allowing just over 3 goals per game. With so much offensive firepower, this one sails over. Play the Capitals/Flyers over the total.

THE SPORTS REPORTER FLORIDA STATE over *NORTH CAROLINA STATE by 9 With Xavier Bad Boy Lee at quarterback last season, FSU gained 381 offensive yards while the defense shut ’em out for the final three quarters of a 27-10 win. But NC State was –4 in TO Ratio for that game, playing with one of its infamously bad QBs and without its two best running backs. Now, with QB Russell Wilson having two decent games under his belt vs. East Carolina and Boston College and 228-pound #1 RB Andre Brown fresh and ready to pound the piggie, you can leave that ‘Beware of Home Dog’ sign hanging in Raleigh. However, with so many injuries, they are a wounded home dog. FLORIDA STATE, 23-14.
*TCU over BYU by 2 Horned Frogs are arguably the biggest roadblock on BYU’s path to Unbeaten City and the home team has this one circled. The Cougs got a taste of physical last week in New Mexico and will get more of it with a short week turnaround. TCU mans the nation’s top defense and will try and turn this into a time of possession contest. Starting QB Dalton is nicked up and may not play, but the game will come down to BYU’s ability – or lack thereof - to score TDs with the passing game. TCU, 22-20.

POINTWISE
Florida State 34 - NORTH CAROLINA STATE 20 - (7:45 - ESPN) -- Both teams had last week off. Ponder has FlaSt moving it (144 RYs, 139 PYs last gm), with only loss facilitated by 7 TOs. Just 26 & 35 RYs for Wolfpack in last 2 tilts, along with mere 13 & 15 FDs. NCSt allowing 32 ppg last 9 tilts. Buck history.
TCU 34 - Byu 30 - (8:00) -- Sixteen straight wins for Coogs, with Hall at 20/4 (TDs to INTs). Have owned airways in this series (Wise Points), but a bit of a struggle overland of late, so won't run on Frogs' #1 rated rushing "D". Tcu had a 398 RY edge in last HG, & host is +78 pts ATS in Cougar contests. Classic.
