Trackmaster Selection
Monmouth - Race #4 - Post: 2:18pm
Rating:
Choice Plays:
#12 ADJUST (ML=8/1) #13 MISTER ALIMONY (ML=6/1) #5 MOUNT WILTON (ML=20/1)
ADJUST - This jock and conditioner have a favorable ROI when they unite. Broome has a very solid win percent in grass routes. This gelding should be conditioned to win. MISTER ALIMONY - This pony coming off a solid performance in the last month is a serious competitor in my humble opinion. MOUNT WILTON - Last ran at Monmouth and finished fifth. Reviewing his PP data, I see he was close at the end, within five of the winner. Look for this gelding to run better in this race. Last affair at Monmouth finishing fifth on a track listed as good is no sign of his true ability. Just see his last speed fig, 91. That one fits in this field. Dropping 9 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. PP lines show this thoroughbred with 3 improving Equibase speed figures. Ramirez should be on a live horse today.
Vulnerable Contenders: #3 FLEET APPEAL (ML=7/2), #8 LUCKY LEO (ML=4/1), #7 PINCH THE CLOWN (ML=9/2),
FLEET APPEAL - 7/2 is too short of a value to take on most any animal that has run poorly in back to back outings. LUCKY LEO - Just don't think he is priced right at the probable odds. PINCH THE CLOWN - Awfully tough to play this steed when he hasn't been showing any signs of readiness of late.
STRAIGHT WAGERS: Go with #12 ADJUST on top if we're getting at least 7/2 odds
EXACTA WAGERS: Box [5,12,13]
TRIFECTA WAGERS: Box [5,12,13] Total Cost: $6
SUPERFECTA WAGERS: [5,12,13] with [5,12,13] with [2,5,6,12,13] with [2,5,6,12,13] Total Cost: $36
RACE #9 - BELMONT PARK - 5:16 PM EASTERN POST
The Sheepshead Bay Handicap
11.0 FURLONGS INNER TURF GRADE II FILLIES AND MARES THREE YEARS OLD AND UPWARD GRADE II STAKES $150,000.00 PURSE
#8 MAURALAKANA #6 J'RAY #2 HOSTESS #5 RISING CROSS For you folks who enjoy a little "racing trivia" to accompany your handicapping efforts today ... The Sheepshead Bay Handicap was named after the old Brooklyn Racetrack that ran from 1880 through 1910. Sheepshead Bay was closed down when the Hughes Ban eliminated all racing in New York in 1911 and 1912, and was never reopened. In this year's edition, the 5-0th running of this graded stakes event, #8 MAURALAKANA, a French-bred entry, shares the speed honors with #6 J'RAY is th overall pace profile leader , and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in four of her last five starts, winning twice in this recent streak of racing consistency. J'RAY has won 7 times in her career to date racing at, or about, today's distance of 11.0 furlongs on the grass, and has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in three of her last four outings, including a "POWER RUN WIN" in her 4th race back.
RACE #2 - HOLLYWOOD PARK - 1:00 PM PACIFIC POST
The Alydar Stakes
9.0 FURLONGS CUSHIONED TRACK THREE YEAR OLDS STAKES $75,000.00 PURSE
#2 MADEO #1 EXUMA #3 PISTOL PETE AFLEET #5 BINGHAM
#2 MADEO is both the speed and pace profile leader in this stakes field today racing at the mile distance on the "dirt," and comes off back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in his last two starts. #1 EXUMA also posted a "POWER RUN WIN" in his respective last start, which was his "maiden-breaker!"

Belmont BEST BET: Mister Nobody (4th race) First Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Golden Blaise 2. Hana Highway 3. One Day Soon
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOLDEN BLAISE and HANA HIGHWAY won last fall shortly before cutoff date in the conditions, and appear well spotted in Saturday's opener. Golden Blaise, a part of the exacta in 10 of 21 starts overall, comes out of an open $10K claimer, and has yet to run at 6fs over a fast track in current form cycle. Hana Highway drops in price after pressing sharp pace first time over the track; that's two subpar figures in a row, however, so it's fair to wonder if the 10-year-old can recapture mid-winter form. ONE DAY SOON went well of a turf-to-dirt switch at Belmont's '07 spring meet, posting consecutive in-the-money finishes at long odds; trouble prone sort. Second Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. I'm Entitled 2. Who Needs to Know 3. Digital Age
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'M ENTITLED is precociously bred (by a good sprint sire and out of Poivre, hard-knocking mare who was a 15-time winner); catches field where the best last-out Beyer on fast dirt is a 45. WHO NEEDS TO KNOW has been showing early speed since blinkers came on, and should benefit from cutback to 5 1/2 furlongs; may forget to stop in spot where few have shown an inclination to pass horses late. DIGITAL AGE drew the rail for fourth time in as many starts, after finishing a clear second in mud; late rally behind two next-out winners only 6f start fast dirt. Third Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. By the Light 2. Lady Chace 3. Throbbin' Heart
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BY THE LIGHT showed lots of promise at 2, winning four starts at three distances, over three tracks and under any pace scenario; comebacker may have the best late kick in short field with plenty of early speed. LADY CHACE is a tricky read on the heels of disappointing performance in the Comely, which wasn't a particularly fast race in terms of pace or final time; anything close to big-figure win first out at 3 would contend. THROBBIN' HEART has been freshened since throw-out line in Cicada where rider lost irons; presser won three of four prior to that, including pair when similarly drawn outside. Fourth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Mister Nobody 2. Golden Man 3. Fit Faze
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MISTER NOBODY has won four of six this year, with only off-the-board finish resulting from duel through :45 second half-mile; comes off consecutive Beyer tops that coincide with removal of front bandages. GOLDEN MAN lost five in a row at odds ranging from 6-5 to 2-1, then took blinkers off and scored at 5-1 off the reclaim at direct expense of WOOD WINNER; sharp drill for this. FIT FAZE is back quickly following pair of fast finishes with near-peak figures; may enter the picture late if top two hook up in prolonged dispute. Fifth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Iron Gate 2. Coop to the Hoop 3. Can't Buy Love
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IRON GATE has run against statebreds on turf three times and been second best each time, while showing some handiness in terms of tactical speed; may be first to strike at DON'T FOOLI HOULI - who is dangerous making second start of a form cycle for first time. Among those switching to grass: COOP TO THE HOOP is top-rated (345) on Tomlinson #'s, chased allowance repeater Motor Patrol in first NY start. CAN'T BUY LOVE is a half to Dubliner (turf maiden winner here last fall), trainer was 7 for 17 on turf through Wednesday. COPS FEVER is a half to Exeat (Group 1-placed in France). TONY THE TERIO is a half to a six-figure turf earner. Sixth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. T Harry 2. Hot Table 3. Willsboro Point
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It''s been just over a year since a late run by T HARRY fell short at odds-on, but his trainer wins at a high rate (31%) with long layoffs and work tab shows six 5f workouts regularly spaced; handles some cut in the ground, call if in from also-eligible list. HOT TABLE is on a good figure pattern after slightly exceeding best number at Gulfstream; third start off a short layoff. WILLSBORO POINT and WILLSBORO POINT showed enough in limited turf opportunities at Tampa Bay Downs to merit serious consideration vs. the local restricted claimers; both have won on "good" ground. Seventh Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Bob's Star 2. Elusive Gift 3. Open Sleigh
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Possibilities abound in long sprint on the outer course. BOB'S STAR made a couple of runs to finish clear of a next-out graduate in debut placing at 2; homebred from top-shelf outfit is bred to handle turf, has worked well for peerless layoff trainer. ELUSIVE GIFT couldn't hold clear lead late, but saved second opening day, gaining valuable experience this course & distance; mate GRAPPLE is a half to Eleusis, a five-time winner in France who also won the Long Island 'Cap. OPEN SLEIGH was in the money all three grass starts in '07, in which he recorded consistent figures over three different courses; absentee went well sprinting on dirt to begin career. Eighth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Monster Drive 2. Of All Times 3. Super Shape
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MONSTER DRIVE had tough trip steadying along as winner set easy pace last out, but that still represented improvement from his form prior to layoff; two big efforts on this track last fall. OF ALL TIMES set blazing pace and paid the price when caught final yards of starter handicap, which continued a long series of hard-trying performances for several trainers; 7-year-old might still be feeling effects of recent exertions, and a second key may be how much pressure he gets from South American mystery horse SUPER SHAPE. The latter is the x-factor off series of purposeful workouts turf and dirt, makes U.S. debut in field where four of five rivals are statebreds; runner-up from maiden win in Argentina needed five more starts before getting maiden win. Ninth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Mauralakana 2. Hostess 3. J'ray
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAURALAKANA was an in-and-outer while campaigned all over the map last year, but developed some consistency in Florida over the winter and ran three bang-up races in succession; she's shown some early initiative before, and might be the one to seize control of an otherwise paceless Sheepshead Bay. HOSTESS is an obvious threat on the basis of split decisions with the choice at Gulfstream; surprisingly close to BC F&M Turf winner Lahudood at 81-1 on this course last fall. J'RAY was beaten less than a length by Mauralakana in last two starts, and in fact had the lead midstretch of the Mairzy Doates; should benefit from that first attempt at 1 3/8 miles. Tenth Race
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Exton 2. Victory Sign 3. Absolute Return
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EXTON has notched both career wins on Belmont turf, along with some other good performances at big prices here that include a close second at 26-1 when previously with this trainer last fall; gets Castellano back. VICTORY SIGN drops into a claimer for the first time, but is hard to gauge after trailing throughout return over Polytrack; didn't get much pace to run at when last on turf at Arlington Park last July. ABSOLUTE RETURN has Beyered in the 70s all four turf starts, a level good enough to make presence felt; steps up after wiring N2L claimers, may battle early with QUICK COMEBACK.
