Jerry Glanville and June Jones apparently will work together again. ESPN is reporting that Hawaii has hired the eccentric Jerry Glanville as its new defensive coordinator.
According to the report, Glanville, who has not coached at any level since 1993, officially will be hired Tuesday.

Known for his rebel style and for leaving tickets for Elvis while he was an NFL coach, Glanville posted a 63-73 record as coach of the Houston Oilers (1985-89) and Atlanta Falcons (1990-93). He took his teams to the playoffs three times.

Jones — Hawaii's coach — and Glanville worked together in the NFL. Jones succeeded Glanville as coach of the Falcons in 1994.

Glanville, 63, a longtime defensive coordinator who has been working as an analyst in the NFL, is known for developing the "Gritz Blitz" in the 1970s in Atlanta, a scheme that brought rushers from a variety of angles.

In Hawaii, Glanville would attempt to turn around a defense that ranked last out of 117 Division I programs last season.

Glanville would get an immediate test with Hawaii, which opens the regular season on September 3 at home against defending national champion Southern California.
