Whether you like him or not, you have to give the man his dues. He has been one of the most dominant pitchers in recent years and his career is amongst the best or the best in a long long time, even ever.
If tonight was the last night we saw Roger pitch live, it was a classic performance, even if the Yankees go on to lose.
I actually have some fond memories, and yes I will date myself here.
Besides buying packs of baseball cards, the very first stand alone card I bought was the Topps Rookie Card of Roger Clemens. I paid $10 for it, at all places a WWF wrestling event at the Beeghly Center. During intermission I went out to the lobby and they had guys with tables selling cards, they had the card, and I bought it. This my friends was over 15 years ago.
I actually met Rogers wife at Jacobs Field when Roger was with the Blue Jays. I was there with the players wives courtesy of Joe Carter. I did some business for a business partners of Joe in Oklahoma coming to find out later the mans partner was Joe Carter. Whenever the Blue Jays came to Cleveland, there was Freak with the wives of the Blue Jays. I was lucky to sit with Rogers wife on many occasions.
Matter of fact the other night I was going through some old stuff of mine, and I came across the picture of Roger that she gave me as a momento.
So say what you want, say what you will, but a competitor and pitcher like Roger is hard to find these days.
Best of luck Roger, hope you change your mind and come back next year !!!
