This is final and will not need an update unless #13 Nyquist scratches. If any of the other 11 horses scratch that are included in the three tickets, no update will be provided. It will just lower the total amount of our bet down. As it stands now our total bet will be $330. If one of the 11 other horses scratch, the total of the bet will be down to $270.

We will feature three trifecta bets this year:

Bet #1. $1 Trifecta Wheel. Key #13 over #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19 over #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19. Total Cost of this bet - $110.

Bet #2. $1 Trifecta Wheel. Key #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19 over #13 over #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19. Total Cost of this bet $110.

Bet #3. $1 Trifecta Wheel. Key #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19 over #2, #3, #4, #5, #9, #10, #11, #14, #15, #17, #19 over #13. Total Cost of this bet $110.

Total Cost of All Three Bets - $330.

If No. 13 Nyquist finishes first, second, or third and the other 11 horses listed fill out the other two spots we will win the $1 trifecta. Remember to play the $1 trifecta instead of the $2 trifecta as this will double your total bet. If you still do not understand these bet, just print off this sheet and show it to the teller and they will be able to put in these bets for you.

14 Mohaymen – Top Choice

Mohaymen has run one bad race in his career and that was his last race. Mohaymen raced on a wet track for the first time in his career that day and was caught wide the entire race. If we throw out the Florida Derby you have to consider this horse as he has the perfect style to Win the Derby. He has tactical speed to sit in the perfect stalking position in the second group of horses right off the pacesetters. Being in that stalking position he won’t have to worry about traffic problems like the deep closers in this race may have to deal with. We will be getting a great price because the money will be on Nyquist.
Mohaymen is our Top Choice and we are betting him to Win-Place -Show

6 My Man Sam – Longshot Horse
Every year because of the inflated wagering pools I bet 2 horses WPS one horse is my top choice and the other is my Longshot horse. I bet the longshot for half of the amount as I do my Top Choice. My Man Sam is a lightly raced horse with only 4 starts and has license to make a big jump in improvement today. Horses that have 5 or less starts usually haven’t peaked yet and are capable of making a big jump up from one race to the next. I believe My Man Sam is sitting on a big race as I like the way he has progressed in his short career. Chad Brown has taken his time with this colt and in his final prep race he had no shot with the trip he had in Bluegrass. My Man Sam drew PP 14 in a 14 horse field. They went straight to the back of the pack with him and never made a move until coming off the final turn. My Man Sam was flat out flying rallying from 14th to 2nd and closing fast. This was a great set up race for him leading into the derby. He also gets regular Jockey Ortiz back up for this one.

My Man Sam is our Longshot and we are betting him to Win-Place -Show

I would remiss if I didn't bring up my annual post of my all time favorite horse.

Sunday Silence. The great horse that was overshadowed by Easy Goer but defeated Easy Goer in 3 of 4 match ups with the only loss being in the Belmont Stakes to end the Triple Crown bid.

I can recall sitting down at Mountaineer Park in Chester, WV in the clubhouse with a good friend of mine for the KY Derby. Followed again in the Preakness. The excitement had built up for the Belmont but Easy Goer was on his home turf and was the heavy favorite.

It's a race and moment I'll never forget. It was crushing, disheartening and has stayed with me only to be reminded with each passing KY Derby. Hell I'll probably be writing about this until my last KY Derby I see on this earth.

I was revived just two years ago with California Chrome as I followed this horse follow the same path Sunday Silence did.

We all know how that ended.

I'll leave things short this year and if you want to read more, simply go back in time and read the years past KY Derby coverage.

The above was my comments that you can find on April 2nd in the Florida Derby thread.

The great thing about the Kentucky Derby is that there is a ton of money in the pools and no matter who wins including the favorite you are going to get a nice return on your investment if you win.

This year I am taking a different approach to the Derby and have come down to three horses that I feel have the best chance of winning the Derby and bringing home the money for us.

#13 Nyquist - People are concerned by the distance, I am not at all. Not overly thrilled with the odds but the horse should be the favorite as I said on April 2nd. Should be in a nice stalking position and will need to make the first move around the turn as a cavalry of closers should be in hot pursuit.

#14 Mohaymen - Lost to the top pick last out in the Florida Derby as the favorite. I am putting a line through that race as it was obvious he didn't take to the surface that day. It was an odd set of circumstances and I am not taking away anything from Nyquist's win but this horse just didn't take to the surface and finished way back. Based on works since then, this guy is sitting on a better effort and is primed to go.

#11 Exaggerator a consistent runner and you have to like the fact in the Santa Anita Derby at the first call he was 7th sixteen lengths out of first yet finished first by 6 and a quarter. Beat Mor Spirit who seems to be getting some play but will be nowhere to be found in the end.

I have a feeling that their may be a price or a horse that has been totally overlooked and would lean to Destin and Whitmore that could spoil all the fun. If you are looking for long shot plays these would be it.

Enjoy the race, don't over bet it.

Nyquist the winner paid $6.60 $4.80 and $3.60
Exaggerator finished second paying $5.40 and $4.20
Mohaymen finished 4th.

I handicapped this race pretty much spot on and kept it super simple for everyone this year. If you played exacta you cashed as well paying $30.60

A few of you e-mailed me asking what my picks were and what I played, if you followed along, you made $$$$$

Nyquist is a special horse and it will be interesting to see how things play out in the Preakness in a few weeks. I think we are going to have a full field and a few that didn't run in the Derby.

I think the top four to six here move on with a few new shooters.

Nyquist will be the odds on favorite to win the Preakness and it's unlikely we see odds on him like we did today in the future unless he total falls apart for several races.

This just may be a once in a lifetime horse.

If you followed the "experts" you took a bath today........ but....

If you followed me, you cashed tickets and were dropping dimes, dropping dimes......

Some really crazy plays were put forth....... some spent $110 on 1 trifecta bet and won but lost money on the ticket, not to mention they two other $110 Trifectas that lost the full amount.

Not the way to wager on horses.
