Here is the opening race from Belmont Park to get our day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Clm $7,500 (1:00 ET)

#7 Trillian 5/2
#5 Hot and Bothered 2/1
#2 Red Hot Baby 7/2
#1 Mama Brown 10/1

Analysis: #7 Trillian was a sharp winner last out for this tag in her second start off a eight-month layoff. She finished behind a couple of these two back, pressing the early pace and tiring to finish fifth. Studart takes over from Cohen in the irons and the barn has not used her at all. The mare owns a solid pace profile throughout with good late pace numbers and should get a good tracking trip sitting just off the pace.

#5 Hot and Bothered went gate to wire to beat $10K claimers last out off a two month break. It will be interesting to see how this gal does now that she exits the RRod barn and goes to Jacobson, who is 17% winners first off the claim. She owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and will be the one to catch as the likely favorite.

Wagering

WIN: #7 to win at 2/1 or better.
EX: 5,7 / 1,2,5,7
TRI: 5,7 / 1,2,5,7 / 1,2,5,6,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 8 Alw $52,000N1X (4:45 ET)

#1 Manhattan Fox 8/5
#7 Petecarol 15/1
#4 Ezzy 5/2
#2 Into the Wind 12/1

Analysis: #1 Manhattan Fox stalked the early pace from the inside and had no response in the stretch in a fifth place finish going long on the turf. The cut back to seven panels may suit. This colt was a good second two back at Pimlico going a mile in the James Murphy on Preakness Day.

#7 Petecarol exits a highly graded race won by Trappe Shot, who won the Long Branch at Monmouth Park in his next start with a 105 Beyer. The runner up Tahitian warrior earned a 103 Beyer beating Alw-2L company on July 10. The colt was not much of a threat, but was making his first start off a six-month layoff. Worth tossing in the mix here at a generous price.

Wagering

WIN: #1 to win at 8/5 or better.
EX: 1,7 / 1,2,4,7
TRI: 1,7 / 1,2,4,7 / 1,2,4,5,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Monmouth Park:

MTH Race 9 Clm $50,000B (6:00 ET)

#6 Myakka City 3/1
#8 Home Runner 10/1
#9 Proud Zoe 4/1
#5 Kinsey 7/2

Analysis: #6 Myakka City earned a career top last out beating $40K non-winners of two. Dutrow claimed this gal for $35K four back and she has shown steady improvement. She owns the edge in early and mid pace numbers and she looks as if she can make it 3 for 3 over the surface in this spot.

#8 Home Runner was a sharp winner last out against $40K starter allowance foes at Philly in her first start against winners. She broke her maiden two back for a $40K tag off nearly a three-month break. She looks capable of moving forward off her last start in her third start of her current form cycle.

Wagering

WIN: #6 to win at 5/2 or better.
EX: 6,8 / 5,6,8,9
TRI: 6,8 / 5,6,8,9 / 4,5,6,8,9

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Belmont Park

R1: #1 Mama Brown 10/1
R2: #1 Wadi Suki 8/1
R4: #9 Barbie Girl 8/1
R5: #1 Very 10/1
R5: #7 Florida Girl 10/1
R6: #11 Msjerseyroulette 8/1
R6: #6 Bella Uno 8/1
R8: #7 Petecarol 15/1
R8: #2 Into the Wind 12/1
R9: #10 Make It Special 8/1
R9: #3 Classroom Legend

Good luck today!

Yes, It’s Close To The Edge

While today’s third at Belmont is technically the day’s feature, we’re going to take a pass. A five horse race with two trainers starting two uncoupled runners is not our idea of interesting. However, the eighth race, a 7-furlong turf sprint, is a lot closer to what we had in mind.

Early line favorite Manhattan Fox (8-5) is going to be an extremely tough out. Owning excellent performance figures and from a barn, Chris Clement’s, that’s a profitable 25 percent effective with its turn back and attracting the hot Cornelio Velasquez, it's no wonder, This team has been doing excellent work of late.

Ezzy (5-2) is interesting, too, having won a secondary allowances vs. state-breds now trying preliminary allowances in open company, is super sharp and working purposefully.

Close To The Edge (7-2) clearly is the most interesting. A winner at this distance on synthetics, this lightly raced youngster showed promise in its turf debut, beaten only 1-½ wile trying stakes company.

That spot indicates that the Trombetta barn believes he has a turf performer on his hands and the colt came back to work brilliantly at his Monmouth base for this. No other than Ramon Dominguez takes the mount. It won't be easy but the reward should be fair.

We’re taking Close To The Edge to win at 3-1 or greater, keying him first and second in the exacta with the favorite, adding Ezzy to the trifecta mix.

MONMOUTH RACE 10:
#2 Dubai Echo (8-1) (3 stars)

Our Eyes: Motion trainee has improved in all 3 starts since coming to the States, and had zero chance last time catching stakes star Straight Story who was loose on an easy lead. Figures to advance through entry allowance condition on turf very soon while set to peak. - Jeremy Plonk

Doubles, Pick 3's, Pick 4:
Race 6) 1/3/6/7 (If a scratch, add #9)
Race 7) 1/9 (That's it. If a scratch, condense)
Race 8) 1/4/5/7
Race 9) 1/8/9
****************

Race 6) 6 Furlongs (Turf) Clm 16,000N2L

#3 Hunny of a Tour* Morning line 20-1
This is not a wager for the weak of heart. On paper she looks
overmatched shipping in from Suffolk. But......
It costs to lots to transport, and connections think she
may be viable at this low level. I'm not necessarily a time guy,
but she's gone faster at 6 furlongs on dirt than any of the others.
This will be her 2nd start back after a long vacation. She showed
nice early speed in last, and could surprise.

Safer Bet:
a) #3 to Win, Place or Show

Exotics:
a) Trifecta Box: 1/3/6/7 (If a scratch, add #9)

You can continue at NO COST www.safestwagers.net

Race 7) 1 1/16 Miles (Inner Turf) Md 16,000

#1 Lamar Valley*
Doesn't have lots of speed, but does have back class, and
is always going forward at the end. You get a top jockey, longer
distance, big class drop, and a switch to preferred surface.
This is the only horse in the field that was comptetitive with
Md Sp Wts.

Safer Bet:
a) #1 to Win, Place or Show

Exotics:
b) Trifecta: 1 with 2/5/7/9 with 2/5/7/9 (if a scratch, add #8)

Race 8) 7 Furlongs (Turf) Alw 52000N1X

#7 Petecarol* Longest shot in the race ?
I kept throwing this one out, but there are some things that may
make this choice live at long odds.
There's lots of early speed in this race, which could make the front
break down. This colt can close, has shown good early speed in his one
turf race, and comes back for his 2nd start of 2010 after showing interest in last
before tiring. In that race he challenged 2 very good ones that have gone off
to bigger and better.

Safer Bet:
a) #7 to Win, Place or Show

Exotics:
b) Trifecta Box: 1/4/5/7 (If a scratch, condense)
