The long awaited news is out and it's a bit of surprise to say the very least. As we know the field was expanded from 65 to 68 teams which I think was much better than going to 96. The new format is as such...

The last four teams landing at-large invitations to the tournament will meet two or three days after Selection Sunday for a place in the lower middle of the bracket, most likely as No. 11 or 12 seeds. Add to this that the four lowest seeded teams, basically the champions of lower level conferences, also will meet, playing into No. 16 seeds.

So we will have two #16 seeds advance and then 2 more upper level conference teams make it probably along the line of a 11 or 12 seed.

This is an interesting set up because if the 4 #16 seeds play and only 2 remain who will the #1 seeds play? Two will play true #16 seeds but what about the other two? This is something I haven't been able to get a grip on or answered.

If you know the answer, feel free to add to this item.
