AZALEA S. (G3), 8TH-CRC, $150,000, 3YO, F, 6F, 4:17 P.M. EDT, 7-10

6 BRONX CITY GIRL WOLFSON MARTIN D TRUJILLO E 115
7 JOANIE'S CATCH ROSE BARRY R LEYVA J C 115
8 PICA SLEW CALASCIBETTA JOSEPH CRUZ M R 119

PICA SLEW (Pico Central [Brz]) has dominated her rivals in her past two starts at Calder and we're tabbing the Joseph Calascibetta trainee to continue that trend on Saturday in the $150,000 Azalea S. (G3). The bay filly dropped her career debut when starting on Woodbine's Polytrack but has flourished since being switched to the dirt in Florida. She was an easy winner while going the six-furlong distance last out in the Leave Me Alone S., earning a 101 BRIS Speed rating, and appears ready to take the next step forward under regular rider Manoel Cruz.

BUCKLEUPBUTTERCUP (Najran) surprised as a 6 1/4-length victress in the Eight Belles S. (G3) two back at Churchill Downs, but was taken out of her game when pressing the pace in the Acorn S. (G1), tiring to fifth. That one-mile contest may have been a bit out of her reach and the cutback to three-quarters of a mile might breath new life into the Eddie Kenneally charge. The gray sophomore owns the back talent to take this one and posted a bullet four-furlong move in :47 under the Twin Spires last Saturday in preparation. She'll be tough to deny from just off the pace under Julien Leparoux.

YOURNOTTHEBOSSOFME (Johannesburg) filled the show spot in the Leave Me Alone following a 6 1/2-length score against allowance/optional claiming rivals at Tampa Bay Downs. While the win is probably out of her reach here, the Chad Stewart-conditioned bay could find herself filling out the exotics once again at a nice price.

JOANIE'S CATCH (First Tour) has had a tough season already, running eight times against some of the best in her division. Along the way the Barry Rose runner has picked up placings in the Forward Gal S. (G2), Davona Dale S. (G2), Bonnie Miss S. (G2) and Old Hat S. (G3). Her BRIS Speed figures are on par with the top ones in this field and she could jump up to threaten while making the switch back to a dirt track off two prior turf efforts.

HOT HOT MAMA (Menifee) ran second to Pica Slew in the Leave Me Alone but the dark bay moved up in a big way to earn that black-type credit. We won't be surprised to see her pick up another check, but won't use her in the bottom of the gimmicks at this level. RAPPORT (Songandaprayer) has captured her past two starts by a total of 10 lengths, but those came on the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park. Her three previous starts on conventional dirt tracks saw the Bob Baffert runner well back on the wire and we'll just to watch to see if she can improve upon that form on Calder's dirt.

BRONX CITY GIRL (Yankee Gentleman) and NICKY BOY (Anziyan Royalty) both look out of their class against these.
TRACK BANDIT SELECTIONS: 1st-PICA SLEW
2nd-BUCKLEUPBUTTERCUP
3rd-YOURNOTTHEBOSSOFME

CARRY BACK S. (G2), 9TH-CRC, $200,000, 3YO, 6F, 4:45 P.M. EDT, 7-10

PP HORSE TRAINER JOCKEY WT
1 COFFEE BOY WOLFSON MARTIN D BRIDGMOHAN JERM 119
2 D' FUNNYBONE DUTROW RICHARD E PRADO E S 122
3 BERNIE THE MAESTRO WOLFSON MILTON W COA E M 117
4 DREAM OF ATLANTIS GULYAS PETER TRUJILLO E 115
5 PEACE AT DAWN WOLFSON MILTON W DESORMEAUX K J 115

Five-time Grade 2 winner D' FUNNYBONE (D'wildcat) leads a compact field postward in the $200,000 Carry Back S. (G2) at Calder on Saturday. The talented sprint specialist is no stranger to these parts, as he broke his maiden and finished second in a subsequent stakes try at Calder to begin his career as a juvenile. Equipped with excellent tactical speed and a big closing punch, the chestnut seems to be in a different class than his foes. Edgar Prado has the call.

Speedy Unbridled S. star COFFEE BOY (Yonaguska) has run a pair of big races since joining the Marty Wolfson shedrow, earning BRIS Speed numbers of 103 and 100 in his two tries. The Florida-bred dark bay looks like the top pick if the big favorite falters in here. Jermaine Bridgmohan will be in the irons.

Unbridled S. runner-up DREAM OF ATLANTIS (Stormy Atlantic) has very good early zip and could lead this field to the top of the lane for conditioner Peter Guylas. The lightly raced bay could be dangerous with improvement, or if speed is holding on this surface, but he's probably best used on the bottom of the exotics.

Ride the Rails S. winner BERNIE THE MAESTRO (Bernstein) sports a solid 8-3-1-3 mark at Calder and comes in off the heels of a sparkling :48 1/5 half-mile drill in advance of this. His BRIS Speed numbers on fast ovals put him a few lengths behind the top pair in here, but the gelded Florida-bred did earn his best career figure in the slop. Consider the bay if the rains come. PEACE AT DAWN (Peace Rules) would be a big surprise in the winner's circle, but the closer can't be dismissed for a minor award if the front runners falter in the stretch.

A well-matched field of 13 will vie in Saturday's $350,000 Smile Sprint H. (G2) at Calder. The speedy, Grade 2–placed GO GO SHOOT (Songandaprayer) was a sharp second in his debut for Todd Pletcher last out in the Decathlon S. at Monmouth Park and could have a huge say in the final yards of this race with his best showing. The gelded gray, who is the inside speed of the field, has uncorked some big performances in the past, registering four century-topping BRIS Speed ratings in the last 13 months, and appears to be ready to put his best foot forward beneath David Cohen. We'll take a chance with the speedster.

Classy multiple stakes star BIG DRAMA (Montbrook) is the deserving favorite in this field and should be tough with his best for trainer David Fawkes. The Florida-bred standout is no stranger to this oval, compiling a nifty 6-5-0-1 local mark, and he's also perfect from three tries at this trip. The dark bay has no knocks and must be used in all plays with pilot Eibar Coa.

Decathlon victor CONGRESSIONAL PAGE (Orientate) has been a consistently good performer for conditioner Michael Trombetta and we can't help but notice that the Kentucky-bred is five-for-five at six furlongs in his career. The explosive late runner could find traffic issues in such a large field but if he has anything close to a clear run, we figure he'll be in the top three with Robby Albarado.

Multiple graded stakes victor MAMBO MEISTER (King Cugat) was razor sharp in dominating the Memorial Day H. (G3) over this surface in his latest showing for conditioner Phil Gleaves. The high-quality five-year-old is a superb 9-6-1-1 at Calder but has never run at a trip less than one mile in his 28-race career. We put nothing past the five-year-old and consider him a big top-three player with Manny Cruz along for the ride.

We like SNAPSHOT (Awesome Again) and will consider him in some of our multi-race plays, but we have a hard time backing the True North H. (G2) runner-up with confidence from the 13 post. Trained by Bill Mott, the well-bred four-year-old has been super consistent and rates well with most in this field, but the draw scares us. Dual stakes victor TAQARUB (Aldebaran) broke through with a fine tally over a solid field at Pimlico last out and rates a chance to win his third in succession for trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The well-bred bay colt is extremely fast and is a wire-to-wire threat with his best, but he probably needs the lead to be most effective, as all but one of his lifetime tallies have come in front-running fashion. We feel he could be out-sprinted from his outside post but can't dismiss him from top three consideration. Edgar Prado takes the call.

NOT FOR SILVER (Not for Love), winner of the 2009 Carry Back S. (G2), hasn't won since and can't be endorsed for anything more than a placing if the pace melts. GOLDEN SPIKES (Seeking the Gold) won the 2008 Carry Back but has hit the board just once in seven subsequent tries. We acknowledge the trainer switch to Richard Dutrow and like the worktab he's posted leading up to this event, but it's hard to make a case for the bay at this time.

HOW'S YOUR HALO (Halo's Image), a good fourth in this race in 2009, has run just once in 2010 and might need more preparation to make a late charge against this group. CAUSEWAY'S KIN (Giant's Causeway) has a top pedigree, hails from a potent barn and has run well over this oval in the past. We'd still be surprised if he plays a major part in the outcome. SINCERO (Repent) looks to be in deep. GATO GO WIN (City Place) has finished sixth, seventh and eighth in his three starts on dirt. RUSTY CHARLIE (Pure Precision) could add to the pace for the opening quarter-mile but has little chance.

PRINCESS ROONEY H.na Brew) appears to be the speed in this one, but the chestnut filly might also have to contend with JESSICA IS BACK (Put It Back) and WARBLING (Unbridled's Song) on the front end. Those three could knock themselves out of this race if they get involved in a speed duel, but could also just as easily lead gate-to-wire if left alone on the lead. Dr. Zic did just that when taking the Madison over Keeneland's Polytrack, but has dominated on dirt tracks as well. Warbling faltered last out on the lead after dictating the pace in the Humana Distaff S. (G1), but utilized those tactics to add the Inside Information S. (G2) to her line prior to that one. Jessica is Back did the same thing in the Ocala S. earlier this season, and has placed in the Sixty Sails H. (G3) and Fleur de Lis H. (G2) since then. Our main concern with Jessica is Back is that the six-year-old veteran might prefer a little more distance than this one offers. However, any one of these three has the talent to score a Grade 1 victory in this spot.

FIRST PASSAGE (Giant's Causeway) would benefit if a speed battle erupted, as the Marty Wolfson four-year-old prefers to come from the back. She actually captured last year's Azalea S. (G3) on Summit of Speed Day, and prevailed by a rallying half-length in the U Can Do It H. most recently to prepare for this. The dark bay will be tough to keep out of the exotics. DON'TTALKTOME (Cactus Ridge) tried to wire the U Can Do It last out but was caught by both First Passage and SARATOGA TANGO (Successful Appeal) on the wire. She doesn't appear in the same class as our top picks, but loves the distance (4-3-0-1) and could pick up a small check. The same goes for Saratoga Tango.

REACHFORTHECASTLE (Castle Gandolfo) and SAINTLY ROSE (Graeme Hall) just don't look fast enough to challenge against these. GOLDEN MYSTERY (Awesome Again) dominated a pair of allowance/optional claiming fields on the front end, but probably can't match strides with the speedballs in this one. NICKY BOY (Anziyan Royalty), who is cross-entered to Saturday's Azalea for three-year-olds, is completely out of her class here.

CALDER RACE 5:
#6 Lord Robyn (5-1) (4 stars)

Our Eyes: May not be the same horse anyway, but walked out of the gate, spotted field 8 lengths, is better when pressing/stalking, never really persevered with. UPDATE 6/11/10: Off turf, rallied to just get the head bob on the wire. Fits well here and should offer another square price. - Brian Spencer

#3 Custer- as they say in Poker we are going all in on this one. He has back class and was claimed from a trainer that is over the hill who is currently training at a .06 win percentage by Mitchell who is a 28% winning trainer. He switched him from the turf to the dirt, added blinkers and this one galloped home 3 in front earning his best ever speed rating. He moves up in class and is the one to beat.

Here is the opening race from Belmont Park to get our day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Clm $25,000B (1:00 ET)

#4 Witchesofwestfield 7/2
#6 Little Miss Julien 5/2
#7 Night Spirit 4/1
#1 Bobbi O. 6/1

Analysis: #4 Witchesofwestfield pressed the early pace and was forced to steady when bothered in deep stretch in a third place finish, beaten two lengths for the top spot in her turf debut. She earned a career top in that effort second off the bench and worth another look here on turf. She is out of the turf stakes winner Two Ninety Jones ($347K) who has dropped a couple of turf winners. There is plenty of other early zip in here but she may be the quickest early.

#6 Little Miss Julien set the early fractions and could not hold off the winner late in a runner up finish, beaten a neck for the top spot in a game effort at Churchill Downs. She won her first turf race two back beating $25K non-winners of two at Gulfstream Park. She sports a couple of recent bullet works in NJ for the Ward barn.

Wagering

WIN: #4 to win at 5/2 or better.
EX: 4,6 / 1,4,6,7
TRI: 4,6 / 1,4,6,7 / 1,4,5,6,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Calder:

CRC Race 10 The Smile Sprint Handicap G2 (5:13 ET)

Go Go Shoot 8/1
Big Drama 3/1
Taqarub 6/1
Mambo Meister 4/1

Go Go Shoot is shipping in from Monmouth Park where last out the gelding dueled for the early lead and weakened to finish third in the Decathlon in his first start off a six-month layoff. The gelding caught a main track on the Jersey Shore that was playing to outside stalkers and closers that day. He is capable of running big and should be tighter for his second start off the layoff.

Big Drama won three stakes as a two year old and five of six over the surface so far in his career. The colt tuned up for today with a sharp win in the Ponche Handicap in his first start off a nine-month layoff.

Taqarub is going to be a pace factor and is coming off a sharp win in the Maryland Sprint at Pimlico on Preakness Day. The runner up in that race was Roaring Lion, who came back to win the Mr. Prospector at Monmouth Park in his next outing on July 5.

Wagering

WIN: Go Go Shoot at 9/2 or better.
EX: 2,10 / 2,3,7,10
TRI: 2,10 / 2,3,7,10 / 2,3,7,8,10

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 9 Man O' War G1 (5:17 ET)

#8 Gio Ponti 1/2
#4 Expansion 5/1
#3 Strike a Deal 10/1
#6 Grand Couturier 8/1

Analysis: #8 Gio Ponti is 0 for 3 this year but with some luck could have won two of those including last out in the Manhattan (G1). The five year old had to steady sharply on the far turn, moved quickly in upper stretch and grabbed the lead in deep stretch and could not hold off upsetter Winchester. He was making his first start since returning form Dubai and may not have been fully cranked. He should defend his title here at a short price. He can handle ground with some give to it.

#4 Expansion earned a career top in the Manhattan in his third place finish, beaten 1 1/2 lengths for the top spot. He is winless in six starts over the turf here but has run well in most of those outings, landing in the money five times. He won the Red Smith (G2) at the Big A last fall in his first go for the barn.

Wagering

WIN: #8 to win at 4/5 or better.
EX: 4,8 / 3,4,6,8
TRI: 4,8 / 3,4,6,8 / 1,3,4,6,8

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Monmouth Park:

MTH Race 11 The Long Branch (5:50 ET)

#4 Nacho Friend 5/1
#1 Southern Ridge 7/2
#3 Trappe Shot 2/1
#2 Colizeo 5/2

Analysis: #4 Nacho Friend was our top pick in the Pegasus (G3) and this guy could only mount a mild late rally to finish a non threatening fourth. Breen tries putting blinkers on today, and sports a 33% win clip when adding the hood. The colt came back with a bullet drill on July 3 and I still think this guy is better than he showed in his first two trips over the main track here. The colt is out of You'renotlistening ($372K) who has dropped a nice runner in Your Bluffing ($542K).

#1 Southern Ridge was a good looking winner last out in his second career start, drawing clear to win by 7 1/2 lengths. Two he beat came out of the race to win next out including the runner up Brother Bird, who is Mine That Bird's little bro.

Wagering

WIN: #4 to win at 3/1 or better.
EX: 1,4 / 1,3,4
TRI: no play

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

1st Monmouth Park—(Post 9:50)–Many Crows(4) offers great value in the opener at 8-1. I liked his maiden claiming win at Calder when losing a ton of ground. Many Crows figures to be ready for his best with at wide trip at seven panels at Woodbine. Make a win play on Many Crows(4) and box him with Big Texas Daddy(6). 4-6 box. Steve Asmussen drops Big Texas Daddy in for the claiming tag and he’s been facing some good ones.

Forget Yesteryear, Harve De Grace’s in Delaware Today

With Gio Ponti a dominant figure in today’s Manhattan Handicap, we’ll ship south to Delaware, where it’s Oaks day and Kentucky Oaks winner Blind Luck is a worthy even money favorite, given her accomplishments and a 7-for-11 lifetime mark.

But she might be vulnerable. Since her Herculean effort winning the Fantasy in very fast time, she hasn’t been the same filly on the Equiform performance figure scale. That leaves us two options.

No Such Word (4-1), who was third in the Fantasy came out of it with a strong placing in the Black-Eyed Susan, earning a competitive figure. She followed that up with a soft win and appears likely to move forward here.

But then neither has Havre De Grace (6-1) done anything wrong recently, in fact in her whole career. She’s never taken a backward step on performance figures.

Her development has been excellent, breaking through in her last race to be beaten a neck by No Such Word. She likely will move forward again in her third start off the layup and gets six and four pounds, respectively, from her main competition.

Taking Havre De Grace to win at 4-1 or greater and keying her first and second in exactas with her rivals here.

KEY PLAYS

Race 1
#6 - JULIET DEAR heads into battle with a sparkling
series of drills on her resume. Two-year-old homebred
daughter of CONGRATS comes from a very nice
maternal line. Half sister to The 2003 Foolish Pleasure
Stakes winner STOLEN TIME (by TIME BANDIT) will
race on Lasix and lures Kent Desormeaux for the mount.
Let’s kick off The Summit Of Speed afternoon with a big
bang! #2 - IT'S A WILD SEASON has also been well
prepped. She’s another intriguing first time starter. #7 -
SOFI ANA brings a little something to the table as well.
The Longshot is #5 - MY PRECIOUS BABY.
Exacta Key: 6/2-7-5. Exacta Part-Wheel: 2-7-5/6.
Exacta/Trifecta/Superfecta Box: 2-5-6-7.
Trifecta/Superfecta Key: 6/2-7-5.
Race 6
This is the 35th running of The $100,000 J J’s Dream
Stakes. #8 - PRETTY EXTRAVAGANT makes start
number two after an ultra-impressive victory in her
career debut last month. Two-year-old Florida bred
daughter of WITH DISTINCTION sports a couple of
encouraging drills since that one. I believe this filly has a
bright future and I intend to back her strongly! #3 -
BECAUSE I LIKE IT picks up an interesting rider
switch. Well-meant lass in her debut must be dealt with.
#4 - AWESOME FEATHER adds Lasix for the sequel.
The Longshot is #7 - BLUE EYED SWEETIE.
Exacta Key: 8/3-4-7. Exacta Part-Wheel: 3-4-7/8.
Exacta/Trifecta/Superfecta Box: 3-4-7-8.
Trifecta/Superfecta Key: 8/3-4-7.
Race 7
This is the 39th running of The $100,000 Frank Gomez
Memorial Stakes. #2 - LITTLE DRAMA (Horse To
Watch) comes off our Horses To Watch List following a
less than perfect trip in his well-meant career debut 4
weeks ago. Two-year-old homebred son of BURNING
ROMA is a half brother to The Smile Sprint entrant BIG
DRAMA (by MONTBROOK). Colt with a big future
also picks up a gigantic rider change. If you think you
can beat him, then go ahead and try! #6 - GRANDE
SHORES is another maiden facing winners. He gets
Lasix for today’s affair and should be a factor in this
spot. #5 - ALLEY OOP OOP hails from the same
shedrow as the 2nd choice. The Longshot is #7 - VEE'S
ACCOLADE.
Exacta Key: 2/6-5-7. Exacta Part-Wheel: 6-5-7/2.
Exacta/Trifecta/Superfecta Box: 2-5-6-7.
Trifecta/Superfecta Key: 2/6-5-7.
