Here is the opening race from Belmont Park to get our day off to a good start:

BEL Race 1 Clm $20,000 (1:00 ET)

#3 West Coast Flier 2/1
#7 Brilliant Son 7/2
#5 Not for Money 3/1
#4 Super Shape 5/1

Analysis: #3 West Coast Flier dueled for the early lead and faded to finish fifth last out against Alw-3 optional claimers and drops into a softer spot here for a straight tag of $20K. The six year old improved his Beyer by 17 points in his first go for RRod. The gelding owns solid early and mid pace numbers although there is some other early zip in here as well. It is hard to knock anything this barn sends out.

#7 Brilliant Son stalked the early pace, made a good middle move and flattened out in the stretch to finish fifth last out, beaten 1 1/2 lengths for the top spot. He returns to the main track here and if he runs back to his runner up finish two back on the main track that would be good enough to put him right in the mix here.

Wagering

WIN: #3 to win at 9/5 or better.
EX: 3,7 / 3,4,5,7
TRI: 3,7 / 3,4,5,7 / 3,4,5,6,7

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 7 Clm $16,000N2L (4:12 ET)

#1 We Get It 5/2
#8 Franklin Delano 6/1
#4 Seis de Mayo 4/1
#7 Slamm'n Lou 2/1

Analysis: #1 We Get It was a good second last out, no match for a 6 3/4 length winner on the main track. The effort came against non winners of three and note this guy drops in to face non winners of two here while trying turf for the first time. He does not have a great turf pedigree but does have one sib that has won on grass. More Fascination ($72K) all three of his wins coming on grass. He makes his third start since the red hot barn took this guy for $7.5K.

#8 Franklin Delano exits a couple of state bred Alw-1 races in his first two starts against winners. He broke his maiden three back for a $16K tag at AC going a mile. This is not a real tough spot and this guy might get overlooked on the tote here.

Wagering

WIN: #1 to win at 8/5 or better.
EX: 1,8 / 1,4,7,8
TRI: 1,8 / 1,4,7,8 / 1,4,6,7,8

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Belmont Park

R2: #5 Able Bellamy 10/1
R4: #6 Ungi Blanc 15/1
R6: #7 R J Hope 8/1

Good luck today!

#1 Webster- made a big run in his only turf start closing from mid pack to finish 3rd despite being taken wide and going short. He stretches out to a mile, has the inside and will try to take them wire to wire at a good price.

Warren Eves Plays July 8

4th Penn National—(Post 4:43)—Skeleton Crew(3) comes of a great better-than-looked second place effort at five furlongs on turf. He was not quick early and eighth moving inside one into the turn. Skeleton Crew angled to the outside and staged a strong late surge. Make a win play on Skeleton Crew(3) who is 3-1 on the morning line.

Better Short Price Than Long Face

Today’s Belmont Park feature is a classified allowances-optional claimer that has attracted a small field of classy turf runners going 1-1/16th miles, some classier than others.

And the classiest of all, and most probable winner, is Al Khali (8-5), from the Bill Mott barn’s that’s been winning at a 31 percent rate at this meet. He won’t pay for your summer vacation.

There’s not a clear speed type in this matchup but he does have some tactical gas and in Kent Desormeaux someone who understands pace and rides races accordingly. As a four your who’s been toughened at the G1 level, he still has considerable upside.

Taking Al Khali to win, no price restrictions, and a cold exacta with old pro Operation Red Dawn who’s been at his best at today’s distance.
