QUALIA (Saarland) will make her stakes bow in Monday's $150,000 Bed o' Roses H. (G3) at Belmont Park and rates top billing. Trained by Bob Ribaudo, the four-year-old lass captured her career debut over the track last October and reeled off a pair of commendable wins at Gulfstream Park early in the winter meet. Freshened nearly 3 1/2 months, the dark bay returned in a May 28 allowance/optional claiming event at 6 1/2 furlongs and remained perfect at Belmont with an impressive 4 3/4-length tally, netting a career-best 102 BRIS Speed rating. The improving Kentucky-bred breezed a half-mile bullet in :47 2/5 on Wednesday and will be well-positioned from the start with her tactical speed. We like her chances.

RIGHTLY SO (Read the Footnotes) will enter off a good second in the Vagrancy H. (G2) and looks like the one to catch under Cornelio Velasquez. Trained by Tony Dutrow, the four-year-old raced exclusively against New York-bred rivals before testing open waters last time, registering a pair of stakes wins including the Iroquois S. at seven furlongs, and her BRIS Speed ratings are very strong (101 and 103 last two starts). The dark bay likes Belmont (3-2-1-0) and could lead wire to wire.

DEVIL BY DESIGN (Medaglia d'Oro) brings a two-race win skein into her graded debut and is a win threat with further improvement. The Bill Mott-trained filly will step up in class off a comfortable allowance/optional victory at Churchill Downs, which followed a lengthy layoff, and she's got the potential to be a very nice four-year-old this season. We won't be surprised to see her offer another strong showing beneath Kent Desormeaux.

MCVICTORY (Victory Gallop) finished a fine second when making her first start for Todd Pletcher in the Monmouth Beach S. last time and merits serious consideration for the top three. The chestnut is one-for-one over the track, winning an off-the-turf allowance last October, and will pick up the services of leading rider Ramon Dominguez. The speedy miss has had more success at longer distances, but we give her a fine chance to hold for part.

AMAZING (Greatness) will make her first start with Richard Dutrow, but she's done her best running at two turns. LADY ALEXANDER (Exchange Rate) does her best running on the front end, but she may not be quick enough to get to the front and we can't envision her sustaining her early speed. MY DINAH (Victory Gallop) and NICKSAPPEALINGLADY (Successful Appeal) don't look sharp enough to challenge.

1st-QUALIA
2nd-RIGHTLY SO
3rd-DEVIL BY DESIGN

HOLLYWOOD JUVENILE CHAMPIONSHIP S. (G3), 8TH-HOL, $100,000, 2YO, 6F, 4:35 P.M. PDT, 7-5

PP HORSE TRAINER JOCKEY WT

6 J P'S GUSTO HOFMANS DAVID TALAMO JOSEPH 120
7 EDGEWICK ROAD HARRINGTON MIKE BAZE T C 117
8 WESTERN MOOD HOLLENDORFER JERRY ROSARIO JOEL 117

J P'S GUSTO (Successful Appeal) will look to make it two straight stakes wins in Monday's $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship S. (G3) and we can't go against the probable favorite. Backed down to favoritism in his career bow, the David Hofmans trainee lost all chance when he missed the break and was forced to go wide, recording a fast-finishing sixth, but made amends when tackling winners in the Willard L. Proctor Memorial S. last time, drawing clear to an easy 4 1/2-length decision. The bay ridgling broke well and closely stalked the pace before seizing control at the top of the stretch last time, and he came home quickly, registering a 99 BRIS Speed rating. The Kentucky-bred appears to be training forwardly in the interim and looks tough to beat here.

WESTERN MOOD (West Acre) probably has the best chance at an upset. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, the Florida-bred colt opened his racing career with a good-looking score over the Cushion Track, rallying past rivals in the stretch to win by 1 3/4 lengths. That netted him a commendable 95 Speed figure and the bay appears capable of further improvement.

LEON AYALA (Crown the King) will probably show speed from the rail and can't be dismissed from exotics consideration. The California-bred faltered when trying open company under serious pressure in the Willard Proctor, but he's eligible to improve off that experience and could last a long way if he gets clear early beneath Felipe Valdez. We'll use the Oscar Garcia pupil on the bottom at long odds.

EDGEWICK ROAD (Swiss Yodeler) got up late for third in the Willard Proctor and appears to be headed in the right direction for Mike Harrington. The chestnut recorded a solid maiden win two back, rallying from just off the pace for a head decision, and he's posted commendable BRIS Late Pace ratings. We won't be surprised to see him finish well under Tyler Baze for a minor award.

RIVER'S CHAPEL (Chapel Royal) went wire-to-wire two back at Hollywood but came up a little short when shipping to Golden Gate for the Lost in the Fog S. last time. The Walter Solis trainee can't be dismissed from top-three consideration. TAPPIN TOUGH (Tapit) was no factor when stepping up in the Willard Proctor last time and looks like an outsider in this spot. We'll give Emerald shipper MARVIN'S MAGIC (Aptitude) a race at this level. MINUTESANDTOUCHES (Rockport Harbor) is still a maiden and wasn't a serious factor in either of his two career starts.

1st-J P'S GUSTO
2nd-WESTERN MOOD
3rd-LEON AYALA

Here is the opening race from Monmouth Park to get our day off to a good start:

MTH Race 1 Clm $5,000 (12:50 ET)

#3 Precious Package 5/2
#9 Fort Funston 9/2
#1 Haddenfield / #1a January Gent 3/1
#8 Cape Town King 7/2

Analysis: #3 Precious Package was bumped and squeezed coming out of the gate, was sent up to vie for the early lead and weakened to finish third last out. The gelding was making his first start for Rojas, who claimed him off Dutrow. Today he goes for the Pompay barn that is 47% winners (with a +ROI) first off the claim. The gelding owns a solid pace profile throughout.

#9 Fort Funston ships in for the Miller barn, and the SoCal trainers have not fared very well at the meet, but this guy exits races at Prairie Meadows on dirt. He set the early fractions and could not hold off the winner late in a good effort. The third place finisher in the race was Clean Hit, a next out winner versus restricted $5K foes on June 8.

Wagering

WIN: #3 to win at 2/1 or better.
EX: 3,9 / 1,3,8,9
TRI: 3,9 / 1,3,8,9 / 1,3,5,8,9

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Belmont Park:

BEL Race 9 Bed O' Roses G3 (5:17 ET)

#6 Rightly So 2/1
#1 Qualia 5/2
#3 Amazing 10/1
#5 Lady Alexander 8/1

Analysis: #6 Rightly So set the early fractions and drifted late, unable to hold off the winner and coming up a half length shy of winning the Vagrancy (G2). She was our top pick in that race and gave us a good effort at 12/1 odds. Two back she was beaten just a nose in the state bred Indistinctly to Sapphire Sky, who came back to beat $100K optional claimers in her next start on May 12. The filly fires every time out, landing in the exacta in 8 of 9 starts with a third. We won't see 12/1 again.

#1 Qualia is nearly perfect in five career starts, four wins and a neck loss. She gets better with each start, last out earning a career top beating Alw-3 optional claimers. She popped a bullet work on June 30 and the sky is the limit with this filly, who looks primed and ready for her stakes debut here.

Wagering

WIN: #6 to win at 9/5 or better.
EX: 1,6 / 1,3,5,6
TRI: 1,6 / 1,3,5,6 / 1,3,5,6,8

Today's Featured Race of the Day from Monmouth Park:

MTH Race 9 The Mr. Prospector (4:52 ET)

#1 Congressional Page 3/1
#7 Checklist 5/2
#2 Cherokee Country 9/2
#3 Elusive Warning 6/1

Analysis: #1 Congressional Page won the Decathlon here matching his career top speed fig and is a perfect 3 for 3 over the main track here. He draws the rail here, which might make it tough, but he should get a good pace set up and looks like the one to beat here for the Trombetta barn that has been sending out live runners at the meet (5 for 13).

#7 Checklist set the early fractions and weakened to finish third last out in the True North (G2). The colt earned a career top two back popping a104 Beyer beating second level allowance foes. He owns solid early and mid pace numbers, but won't have things easy up front in this spot.

Wagering

WIN: #1 to win at 2/1 or better.
EX: 1,7 / 1,2,3,7
TRI: 1,7 / 1,2,3,7 / 1,2,3,5,7

Live Longshots:

These are price plays for exotic players looking to find a couple of extra contenders to use in their trifecta and superfecta wagers. Or for those with smaller bankrolls, you might want to get in a small win-place wager.

Belmont Park

R2: #5 Gold Close to Home 10/1
R2: #3 Le Bonne Vie 8/1
R3: #7 Love of Life 20/1
R5: #5 Sol a Pino 8/1
R6: #2 Captains Sword 15/1
R7: #2 Yankee Fourtune 8/1
R8: #7 Mighty Irish 10/1
R8: #6 Informa 8/1
R9: #3 Amazing 10/1
R9: #5 Lady Alexander 8/1
R10: #6 Up for Love 8/1

Good luck today!

Qualia Continues to Blossom in Bed o’ Roses

Terrific renewal of the Grade 3 Bed o’ Roses at Belmont Park for fillies and mares sprinting 7 furlongs. Half the eight-horse field can win it, perhaps even five of these fast ladies.

The one thing this race doesn’t lack is early gas. Rightly So (2-1) could be the speed of the speed and is 2-for-3 at Belmont. But that might not help her against ship-in Lady Alexander (8-1), the speedball from Monmouth Park that just worked in :45 2/5 for this.

At least we’re looking for some sort of a duel because that will put Qualia (5-2) in the catbird seat. In a five-race career she’s done very little wrong. A neck defeat prevents her from a perfect 5-0 record.

Qualia came out running fast performance figures, that trend has continued, and she doesn’t appeared over-developed in terms of the improvement she’s shown from race to race. Returning in this time frame is perfect, a profitable 21 percent move for Bobby Ribaudo who, like his filly, hasn’t taken any missteps.

Taking Qualia to win at early line odds, boxing her in the exacta with RIghtly So, and keying her first and second in trifectas with the two fillies named above, adding late-running McVictory, making her second start for the Pletcher barn, to the mix.

Doubles, Pick 3's, Pick 4:
Race 7) 3/4/6
Race 8) 1/6 (If a scratch, add # 3)
Race 9) 1/3/6
Race 10) 1/3/5/6

Race 7) 7 Furlongs (Turf) Md 60,000

#6 General Song*
The oddsmaker isn't giving this colt enough credit.
Don't think we'll be lucky enough to get morning line of 7-2.
He showed early speed in last racing against Md Sp Weights.
He was leading at the 7furlong marker while rebuffing challengers,
and then eventually tiring.
AM clockings have been strong, and trainer excels with stock
coming off a freshening.

Safer Bet:
a) #6 to Win, Place or Show

Exotics:
b) Exacta: 6 with 3/4
c) Trifecta: 6 with 3/4 with 3/4
d) Super: 6 with 3/4 with 3/4 with 2/5/7/8

Race 8) 1 Mile Clm 7500

#6 Informa* Morning line 8-1
On paper, #1 "Najarans Star" runs over these.
But.....it's not worth a bet with the morning line at 4-5.
And...you have to be suspicious when this mare was
capable in last against lots better. She should be worth
more in the breeding shed than the claiming tag.
Maybe connections think she's got one race left in her.
Conversely, #6 "Informa" looks like she's on the improve.
Her last should serve as a useful tightener, and she's back
at her competitive level.

Safer Bet:
a) #6 to Win, Place or Show

Exotics:
