Barry Bonds indicted on perjury, obstruction charges

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Barry Bonds was indicted Thursday on perjury and obstruction of justice charges, culminating a four-year federal investigation into whether he lied under oath to a grand jury looking into steroid use by elite athletes.

The indictment came three months after the 43-year-old Bonds passed Hank Aaron to become baseball's career home run leader. Bonds parted ways with the San Francisco Giants after the season.

While Bonds was chasing Aaron, a grand jury was working behind closed doors to put the finishing touches on the long-rumored indictment.

to bad they didn't do this before that cheatinf piece of shit got the record.

I am in the minority on this subject. I like Barry. I can't wait to see what the gov't came up with. It sure took long enough.

Its early in the game but the area press, through interviews with commentators, is thinking that his boyhood friend/former business partner and Bonds' ex girlfriend may be credible witnesses who will damage Bonds' defense.

I grew up a fan of the late Bobby Bonds. Alot of strikeouts but an exciting leadoff man. I have an old Giants yearbook which has a family picture with a real young Barry wearing a batting helmut.

The day that this story happened, I just happened to be at the radio and posted it a couple minutes after it was reported so we had a scoop on all the other sports sites that day!
