Have you ever wondered what the odds were of John McCain winning this year's presidential election? Or Barack Obama's odds?

I'm not talking about polls and political pundits, high-priced assumptions and stipulations. I mean betting odds. I mean, calling up my bookie and saying I'll take Obama in the 2008 election on 2-to-1 odds.

Now there's at least one handicapper who is up for the challenge.

The Bay State’s beleaguered dog tracks could find new life as off-track betting parlors if voters this fall ban greyhound racing, a key lawmaker says.

State Rep. David Flynn (D-Bridgewater) is drafting a proposal to allow the state’s two greyhound tracks to stay in business even if a referendum passes in November shutting down live greyhound racing.

Under the proposal, the two tracks would become giant simulcasting centers. While the dogs would go into retirement, the tracks would cater to gamblers interested in betting on both horse and dog races from around the country broadcast on overhead video monitors.
